Two drivers died Sunday morning after their trucks collided head on and caught fire at Kiu near Salama Town, Makueni County along Mombasa Road.
Witnesses said that the accident involved a Mombasa-bound petrol tanker and a clinker tipper which collided and pushed a third lorry before busting into flames.
According to Salama police boss Joseph Nyasili, the petrol tanker was driving on the wrong lane when the accident happened.
The driver of the petrol tanker died on the spot after he was caught up in the flames while that of the clinker tipper died in hospital while undergoing treatment.
"The driver of the third lorry sustained injuries and was rushed to Machakos Hospital,” Mr Nyasili told the Nation by phone.
